Army Refused Permission

(NZ Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 27. The Ministry of Works has refused the Army permission to transport an M4l tank across the Waitotara bridge, about six miles south of Waveriey. on the WanganuiHawera highway. The tank, with its transporter. weighs 42 tons The maximum weight the bridge will safely support is 23 tons. The tank was scheduled to leave the Army camp at Waiouru tomorrow morning to be on display at the Taranaki Agricultural and Pastoral Society's show at New Plymouth at the end of this week. Although it would be possible for the tank to be transported to New Plymouth by other routes it will not be sent to the show, said the No. 8 Area officer at New Plymouth, Major G. T. Seccono.be.
