Along with farmes and home gardeners, members of the staff of the City Council’, waterworks department were particularly pleased to see the light but steady rain yesterday. After weeks of drought condition, and record drawing -off «f water, the city’s pumping facilities were heavily taxed. While the council would have been reluctant to impose restrictions ft might have been forced into them if yesterday's rain and cooler temperatures had not broken the drought “We kept up with the demand. but only just,” the City Engineer (Mr E. Somers > "id yesterday. "With the ram, we will now be right for the rest of the week." EAst Saturday there was a «*eord consumption of 27.255 million gallons, and twice earlier this month the previous record of 24.55 million gallons for a 24-hour period, which was in November two years ago, was exceeded.
