DISPUTE AT PAREORA

Kill Falls By 2000 (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Nov. 27. Today’s kill at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Pareora works fell by almost 2000 lambs as the result of three meetings by slaughtermen. The average daily kill is normally 9000. The dispute arose over the company’s refusal to re-en-gage a slaughterman. In a statement tonight, the manager. Mr W. S. Minehan. said the slaughterman had been offered work earlier this month. He had said he could not begin work because of a back complaint, and the vacancy had been filled. “Today this slaughterman reported for work, but there was no vacancy.” Mr Minehan refused to reengage the man. After three meetings, the slaughtermen decided to return to work until the man produced a medical certificate.
