The Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. E. M. Joyce) conducted a confirmation ceremony at St. Ita’s Church, Rakaia, yesterday afternoon. Later he confirmed SOO children in the Church of Our Lady of Victories, Sockbum. Sir Eugen MillingtonDrake. who was British Minister in Montevideo at the time of the Battle of the River Plate and is recognised as one of the leading authorities on that action, will visit New Zealand with his wife from December 9 on a brief lecture tour.—(PA.) Mr R. R. Gibson, a former headmaster of Cathedra! Grammar School, has been appointed director of stewardship for the diocese of Auckland. He will take up his position on December 1 Mr Gibson, who has been in Auckland for the last seven years, is a member of the Church of England Provincial Youth Council
