£66 TAXI HIRE UNPAID
Woman Convicted On Fraud Charge
(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON. Nov. 24. Pleading guilty to two charges of obtaining credit by fraud, and to the breach of a probation order, Mrs Queenie Doreen Buchanan was today convicted on each charge in the Magistrate’s Court at Nelson by Mr G. A. Nicholls, S.M., who also added a special condition to her probation. “If you run up any more bills like this, you will be in serious trouble,” the Magistrate said, ordering that the accused's finances be supervised in future by the probation officer. Senior-Sergeant E. B. McCallum said that Buchanan had hired a taxi from Lyttelton to Blenheim, and again from Blenheim to Christchurch. The total fares of £66 10s had not been paid, and she had finally been found in a Nelson hotel. The Magistrate ordered the accused to co-operate with the probation officer in getting the bills paid.
