BEET SUGAR INDUSTRY
Report’s Value Queried (NX. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 24. The Department of Agriculture’s view that a sugar beet industry in New Zealand was unlikely as long as the existing source of supply of cane sugar was maintained was questioned by Mr J. B. Gordon (Government. Balclutha) in the House of Representatives today. Mr Gordon gave notice to asked the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman) whether be had seen a newspaper report to that effect. The view bad been expressed to the agricultural section of Federated Farmers Mr Gordon asked the Minister if the department’s view was based on the investigation of 20 years ago or whether due regard had been given to the latest information from the United States. Judge Of Dogs Bitten (NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Nov. 24. For the first time in 32 years of dog shows. Mrs B. E Ryan, judge of the kennel section of the Royal Show, was bitten by a dog A collie bit her on the arm while she was examining it She was not seriously hurt and dismissed the bite as “al! in the day’s work." Mrs Ryan is from Melbourne, where she is an allbreed and obedience judge. Mrs Ryan said the standard of dog shows in New Zealand did not compare favourably with Australian shows.
