Award For Potato Digger

THUS two row potato digx ger manufactured by M. B. Wild and Company, Ltd., of Birmingham, England, won a silver medal at the Christchurch show last year. The digger has a normal share •which is pulled underneath the potatoes and directly behind it is a row of tines extending rearwards for about 18 inches with a further set behind them again and extending back for about 2ft. Both sets of tines have an oscillating motion

produced by a drive from the tractor power take-off and this motion separates the soil from the potatoes and gradually lifts them to the surface.

The main advantage of the machine is that it should require much less maintenance than an apron type digger. An older type of digger consisted of a share with a stationary tine attached to it This worked satisfactorily in free soil conditions.
