SHEARING AND WOOL HANDLING

Area Final Now On November 28 The Canterbury and West Coast area finals for the national shearing and wool handling competition will now be held on November 28 in Canterbury Court at the Addington Show Grounds. The date had been previously set for November 21 which clashed with the Lincoln College farmers’ field day. About 48 competitors will be taking part in the area finals, including seven young farmers’ club teams and five in the open section of the competition shearing will begin at 10 a.m. The judging of the wool handling will be done by Messrs L. Galloway and I. S. Miller, of the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch and the judges for the shearing will be appointed by the Wool Board. Mr Galloway said this week that spectators would get an excellent view of the work being done. The tiered seating in Canterbury Court has enabled the organisers to plan the shearing board and wool handling area at floor level. “We do want to get the public along to the area final,” Mr Galloway said. “The competition has attracted a terrific amount of interest at the country shows and the farmers are interested in the various groups of oddments being taken off by the wool handlers, such a$ belly fribs and second pieces."
