STILETTO HEELS
Criticism By Doctor
(N.ZJP.A .-Renter- Copyright) SYDNEY, Nov. 17. A Macquarie street specialist has launched an attack on stiletto heels in an article in the current issue of the “Medical Journal of Australia." The writer. Dr. M. N. Wing, says she has had many opportunities of observing foot disabilities and poor posture as a practitioner in the fields of rheumatic disease and rehabilitation. “Women’s shoes have always been a problem, but since the advent of stiletto heels for wear in the evenings with the abrupt change from daytime flatties, complaints of swollen feet and backache, with the complications of nervous tension and family strife, have increased considerably,” she says.
“It has caused me to wonder why women are so enslaved to fashion that they will endure untold pain and misery, with resultant severe foot disabilities, just to look like other women. “Modern shoes for women fail to satisfy medical requirements. One wonders how long the interests of the shoe trade are to dominate the comfort and welfare of the population."
