FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A shallow trough of low pressure lies over northern New Zealand and a very deep depression lies far to the south of the country. Forecast:— Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast.—Northwesterlies, strong at times in exposed coastal areas; mainly fine and mild, apart from scattered showers in the alps; winds turning at times in exposed coastal places to fresh south-westerlies with a few brief passing showers and rather cool temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy. Nelson and Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast—Fresh winds from the westerly quarter: fine, apart from a few showers about the ranges: moderate temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy. West Coast.—South-west winds, fresh at times, partly cloudy; occasional showers: cool temperatures. Outlook: occasional showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
