Convicted, Sentenced, Married, Gaoled

WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. A weeping bride was parted this afternoon from her husband of five minutes when he left her outside the Wakefield street registrar’s office to start a months prison sentence. At this morning’s session of the Magistrate’s Court in Wellington the groom. Ralph Ernest Magnussen, aged 23, a university student and barman. was sent to prison for a month when he appeared with another man, John Clive Glover aged 24, a chemist technician and parttime university student, on joint charges of assault, wilful damage, and unlawfully interfering with a nrtor-car The bride was an 18-year-old university student The setback to the couple’s plan—their wedding had been arranged for this afternoon—arose from events after a stag party which was
give>- for the groom last night. The wedding took part with the co-operation of the Police Department. The groom was escorted to and from the ceremony by two plainclothes constables who brought him from the Central Police Station to the registry office in a squad car. Outside the registry office after the ceremony the bride and groom parted. The groom was led to the squad car by the constables and the tearful bride was helped into a car by relations. A group of 10 friends and relatives attended the bride and groom and the two constables at the ceremony.
