PRICE RING TENDERS

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 15. The Auckland Transport i Board today accepted a ; statement by the Department ' of Industries and Commerce that the department could i do nothing about price ring : tendering for cable. Earlier this year the board ■ wrote to the department ■ pointing out that six Auckland firms had submitted ; identical amounts for the : supply of armoured cable to . the board. 1 The department replied: ■ ‘lnquiries have been made ! into the matter, and it has ) been ascertained that the L firms tendered prices were , given to them individually , by the principals in the j United Kingdom, who would s seem to have collectively , agreed in the United King- ) dom on the prices to be > quoted. > “I regret that there is noth- > ing in our Trade Practices t Act, 1958, which can be used to prevent such aft action.”
