“PARISIAN INTERLUDE”
Function For Plunket
Cigarette girls, gaily-striped umbrellas, exotic clothes and hair styles set the theme for a “Parisian interlude” evening held in the Caledonian Hall. Sponsored by a Christchurch beauty salon and organised by the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society, the function was held to aid Plunket Society district work. Models paraded along a blue and rose draped dais, set with candy-striped chairs, and pillars twined with roses. Cocktails were served to the 500 guests under striped parasols. Cigarettes were dispensed by young women in shortskirted black dresses trimmed with white, and finished with brief white aprons. Models demonstrating new Paris-line hairstyles wore fluid, high-fashion gowns made of strikingly beautiful fabrics. One was eau-de-nil chiffon silk, its slim skirt ruched and draped, and finished with a self-fabric floral spray. Another was of green and old brocade, and one in white pure silk had a white guipure lace overdress Heavy pure silk in a deep grape shade was used in a tulip-line cocktail dress. Even the day dresses featured beautiful fabrics—orchid pink heavy silk Was an example. Christchurch hair stylists demonstrated several examples of the new “spaceage" line, and fantasy styles. One eye-catching model featured an upright fan of hair over the forehead, sprayed with a soft glow of pink. Colour was widely used to demonstrate oopular eveningwear shades. These included gold, lilac, and pink. Exactly five weeks today to Xmas Eve late shopping night. Orders are now being fatten for Xmas Cakes, iced or uniced, at ETHNE*S CAKE SHOP. 125 Cashel street. —Adv*
