Princess Margaret And Her Son Both Well
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
LONDON, Nov. 15. Princess Margaret and her 12-day-old son are both fit and well, it was announced from Clarence House today. The baby—who weighed 61b 4oz at birth—is putting on weight at a steady and satisfactory rate. Neither baby nor mother has been outside Clarence House since the birth because of the cold weather. Princess Margaret has been getting up for some time each day. Streams of visitors have been calling at Clarence House, including the Queen Mother, who calls daily. The baby’s “nanny,” Miss V. Sumner, travels across from Kensington Palace each day.
Meanwhile, Princess Mar- ■ garet is busy answering the ; vast mail pouring in from I all over the world. Already . more than 2000 letters and I 1500 telegrams have arrived ; at Clarence House, said the i "Evening News." Princess Margaret works ■ almost all morning answer- > ing them, or instructing her . three ladies-in-waiting how to answer them, breaking oft i only to show her baby to > visitors.
In the afternoon she rests. • but she and Lord Snowdon i return to the letters in the ■ evening. I The Princess and Lord I Snowdon have dinner to- : gether from a trolley in the sitting-room, according to i the “Evening News.” In some respects, the baby • will be brought up in the ■ same way as thousands of ! Londoners bring up their > children. For instance, there is no garden at Kensington Palace, so that the baby’s airings will probably be taken in the great public park—Kensington Gardens—next door. Lord Snowdon has already returned to work at the design centre, but Princess Margaret may not resume her Royal duties until February. The pressure on other members of the Royal Family was too heavy for , her to think of retiring from ; them, said the "Evening ; News.”
