Repairs Continue In Southland

(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 16. Falling trees yesterday and early today have disrupted telephone communications in Southland. Mr B. B. Hands, the district engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department. said more than 500 subscribers were without telephones because of tree damage. Toll lines between Garston and Lumsden and Invercargill and Queenstown were out of action yesterday afternoon but services were restored last evening. However, they were out again by 8 a.m. today. Te Anau toll lines were also restored late last night but were out again late this morning. Three automatic telephone exchanges at Drummond, Centre Bush and South Hillend are without their normal power services and are operating from emergency supply plants. The normal number of linesmen working in Southland has been increased fourfold today. Mossburn has 150 subscribers without telephone services, Balfour SO. Mataura 50 and Riverton and Tuatapere a large but unknown number.
