Formal Objection On Milk Proposal

A formal objection to an application for a hearing on the‘Metropolitan Milk Board's proposal to remove a by-law and substitute another on deliveries of raw milk has been sent to the chairman of the Metropolitan Milk Board (Mr G. D. Hattr.way) by the secretary of the Milk Consumers' Protection Association (Mr G. J. 'Watson). “I am instructed by my executive to lodge an objection to the board s proposals for the removal of by-law five of the board’s by-laws and the substitution of a most limited and apparently inadequate source of raw milk supply in Its place,” says the letter containing the objection. “I make application for a hearing at which the board may receive evidence from all parties concerned and giving the right for our representative to cross-examine all parties giving evidence before a final decision is reached against the resumption of rav* milk deliveries. “Because we expect your board to apply the principles of common law at this hearing, our evidence win be held for presentation at a time to be determined by the board.

“I wish to draw your attention to the fact that your advertisement does not advise consumers that they are entitled to lodge objections to the board, also that numerous anomalies appear to be creeping in under cover of the Milk Act, 1944, and its amendments." The letter also drew the attention of the board to a teleg'—m sent earlier expressing the protest of a public meeting held on November 2 against the board’s decision. "The meeting is unanimous in requesting the return of right of choice and raw milk deliveries as formerly in accordance with Ministerial sanction and in accordance with the board's resolution made on May 15, 1937,” said the telegram. “We remind you of our recent petition to Parliament with 5257 signatures.”
