A 23-year-old linesman who lowered his 15-months-old stepson's feet into a bath of hear-boiling water was sentenced to three years' hard labour yesterday in Melbourne General Sessions. The Imeaman, Martin Alfred Fshey, ot Wrtxnond, a Melbourne subufib, pleaded guilty to having assaulted bis stepson, David Woods, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Judge Read ordered that Fahey serve a minimum of two years before becoming eligible for parole. He said it was hard to imagine how a human being could treat a child this Way. The child Irritated Fabey and he decided to inflict injuries in the cruellest way possible. The child suffered first second and third degree burns which were not discovered until the next day. Fahey had lit the bath heater and then dipped the child’s feet in near-boiling water, Mr Justice Read said. , When it screamed and withdrew its feet Fahey lowered them into the water again, he said.
