Guilty Of Fatal Negligence

A Jury in the Supreme Court yesterday found an Omihi fanner, Albert Keith Burrows, aged 38, guilty on a charge of negligent driving causing the death of Samuel James Lee at Glasnevin, near Amberley, on the evening of May 8. The Jury added a “very strong” recommendation for leniency. Burrows, who was represented by Mr B. McClelland, and who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was remanded by Mr Justice Richmond, on bail, to tomorrow tor sentence. Mr P. T. Mahon conducted the Crown ease. The Jury, Which took 95 minute* to reach Its verdict, added a rider that some effort should have been made by police and others at the accident seene to clear the main highway of wrecked vehicles. This should apply to similar accidents in future, the rider said. When the case opened on Tuesday evidence was given that the accused had driven into two vehicles which had collided some minutes earlier. Lee, the driver of one of foeae cars, was kilted inJtatrtly by the accused's ear. Evidence «i»o revealed that the driver of the car which Lee's vehicle struck Ronald Noel Twidle, had considered Lee intoxicated and wanted the cars left on the roadway so that their positions cculd be marked.
