Table Tennis Young Players Shine In First Round

Good performances by junior players were a feature of matches in the first round of the Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s A grade competition played this week. The younger players, in the top grade for the first time, showed their promise with good play.. Two members of the Dallington team. P. J. Wylie and R. F. Inns, recorded good victories over Canterbury’s seve ith-ranked player, G. M. Leech (University IT). Wylie and Inns are juniors. P. Ives, aged 14. scored a good victory over K F. Stevenson when Eagles met Wallabies 11. The Canterbury under-16 champion, Ives also extended the ranked player, M A. Cox. G. W. Makinson (Star) gave one of his best performances when he hit his way through R. G. Hart (Wallabies I) for a comfortable victory. K. J. Cassidy was the best of the Wallabies team, and he edged out Makinson in a tense match. Results were:—
