“MY FAIR LADY"

Gty May Miss Show “My Fair .Lady” might not be brought to Christchurch at the end <rf this year be* cause the company which owns the Theatre Royal and which is promoting the show was not willing to meet all the council’s safety requirements for a sprinkler installation backstage, said Cr. P. J. Skellerup at a meeting of the City Council last evening. He asked the chairman ot the by-laws, committee (Cr. H. P. Smith) if he was aware of this possibility, and that unless ijfce conditions of the council were amended or complied with the Theatre Royal would be without a licence as a public hall from January 1, 1962. "Will he reconsider the matter in view of the wide public interest in ‘My Fair Lady’ and because the requirements are beyond those insisted upon in Auckland and Wellington theatres?" Cr, Skellerup asked.

While he knew of the difficulty and undertook that the committee would consider the suggestion, he was reluctant to agree to any relaxation of conditions which were not in the interests of public safety, Cr. Smith replied. He was aware of the keen interest in the show.
