ADVERTISING OVERSEAS

Move To Reduce Cost

Measures to reduce the cost of advertising vacant positions at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, were considered by the board oi governors yesterday. The board referred to the professorial board. recommendationc that the college should “in general” restrict advertising overseas to positions of senior lecturer and above. A committee set up to review college appointments reported that toe increasing costa of advertising positions overseas, coupled with the difficulty of attracting suitable applicants from overseas. justified a review of present practices. Dr. M. M. Burns, principal of the college, added that it was still necessary to go overseas for horticultural staff, because they were not trained in New Zealand. Mr D. W. Bain said he hoped a saving in overseas advertising would not be made "just to save a little money.” "Our advertisements keep the name of this institution before university, folk overseas,” he said. “If we stopped advertising Lincoln could become less known.”
