Quick Time Rests On Owner’s Farm
That rather remarkable veteran Quick Time will spend the next week or so on the farm of his owner, Mr B. F. Mears. Then he will rejoin J. L. Barr’s Riccarton team to be prepared for the Dunedin Cup and other holiday races.
Quick Time is now 10, but is holding his form wonderfully well. He was third in the New Zealand Cup and fourth in a blanket finish to the Metropolitan Handicap last Saturday. A year ago Quick Time
ran fourth in the New Zealand Cup and second to Gay Defoe in the Metropolitan. His good form extended into his holiday racing. He started promisingly at Wingatui with a third to Quite Able and Great Sensation in the Dunedin Cup. Then he won the Timaru and Waikouaiti Cups. Bodkin, a stablemate of Quick Time, will not race again until next autumn. He was showing effects of some trouble in a knee after one race at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and is being spelled. Knee trouble, but not in the same leg, curtailed Bodkin's programme last season and probably cost him a chance of developing into a good winner for Mrs G. L. Rutherford.
Now a five-year-old. Bodkin has raced seven times so far this season. His sixth start was at Motukarara, where he won the Brackenfield Hack Handicap to give the stable apprentice, R. W. Donovan, his first success.
