WELLINGTON, Nov.- 14. The principles of total nudity and nudist clubs are clarified in a statement from the public relations officer of the Wellington Sun and Health Society (Mr P. W Cousins), relating to a recently published account of the Government’s review of the indecent publications legislation. "The concern of *he Government on the question of indecent publications is a concern shared b- all decent thinking citizens,” said Mr Cousins.
“Any influencing or moulding of character rtould certainly be of a constructive and beneficial nature. Much of what is available today hardly comes under that classification.
"Perhaps some readers automatically think that nudists are contributing to the present-day ’ooseness of thinking, but Mr C. L. Carr (Opposition, Timaru) in Parliament hit the nail right on the head when he said total nudism is one thing but 90 per cent nudism is another.’
"This sums up the position exactly and i; a point on which nudists are often misjudged.”
While total nudity was the rule in all officially recognised nudist clubs, behaviour
was exemplary r -<j above reproach, he said. It had to be. tor the many fine families and others associated with the movement would not remain members were it not o, said Mr Cousins. , ”' n ’ e y s S ek health and relaxation, but not nt the exwid* 01 fInCT * etlines> " he "Children brought up under these conditions learn the facts naturally and truthfully and are much better equip-., ped to face the world and its*i problems a* a result j **P >is 2 s not idle theory, for during 30 years of organised activity. involving many thousands of people throughout Europe, the United > States. Britain and the Commonwealth, not one case of juvenile delinquency has been reported. "While all are at liberty to reel nudism Is unconventional and only suitable for certain classes of people, let it stand by its record of achievement and the dignity of the human body, clothed or unclothed, be acknowledged. No more is asked of anyone.”
