H.C. SLEIGH LTD. SALES RISE

Govt. Contract Renewed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Nov. 14. H. C. Sleigh, Ltd., petroleum, rubber and shipping group, increased petroleum sales 9Mi per cent, in the four months to October 31 above those tor the corresponding period of last year.

The chairman (Mr H. M. Sleigh) told shareholders this at the annual meeting. He also announced the renewal of the company's contract to supply Commonwealth Government departments with the major share of their aviation fuel requirements for a further term of five years from January 1 next.

To finance further development the company proposed to raise approximately £2 million from institutional organisations by a private placement c>t 8 per cent, unlisted registered unsecured notes, with a term of 15 years.

The company would also accept from holders of its existing securities fixed deposits for periods of six months to 10 years at interest rates from 4U per cent, to 8 per cent.

Burnside Stock Sale (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, November 14. After the entry of 382 last week, the yarding ot 311 fat cattle at the Burnside sale today was above requirements. Although there were a lot of good quality cattle included, the entry contained a large number of cattle little above store class. The sale opened at values on a par with last week, but quickly eased, and before long prices fell to the extent of £2 to £3, and towards the end the drop was even greater. Cows and heifers were also hard to sell. Most classes of fat sheep showed some easing in value, even though there was a reduction of 450 from last week's total of 3189. Hardest hit was the hogget section, this class supplying the bulk of the wether entry. In the early stages a few good quality pens were sold about last week’s rates, but competition quickfy eased for all grades of hoggets, values dropping 6s to 8s a head. Quite a few consignments of the lighter quality were once again absorbed by graziers, at rates 3s to 4s lower than the previous market. Both young and older wethers were in limited supply, with the result that they were the only type to hold their values at near enough to late rates.

Older wethers could be quoted firm. Ewes opened a shade easier, but during the auction firmed a fraction to be about Is below last tele's rates. Another rise in the offering of lambs, from 195 to 242. was accompanied hv a general improvement in quality. This was the only section of the day to receive a good steady demand, a rise of Is to 2s a head being the result.
