DIFFICULT JOB TO UNLOAD BOILER

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELUNGTON, Nov. 12. The Railways Department has had many odd and difficult cargoes to freight throughout New Zealand, but for sheer awkwardness and a need for intensive planning, the 28-ton boiler at present pari of deck cargo of the coaster Breeze which arrived in Wellington on Friday, would take the first prize. The boiler. 16ft long and 12ft high was to have been lifted from the coaster yesterday morning by the Wellington Harboar Board’s floating crane. Hikitea. but wet weather has delayed unloading until Monday morning As a result of the delay a special train which war to have left Wellington early yesterday morning is indefinite. Overhead railway wiring will have to be shut off section by section as the boiler is pulled by the train at only 13 miles an hour between Wellington and Upper Hutt, and because of a low railway tunnel near Mauriceville it will have to be taken by road for 25 miles between Masterton and Eketahuna.

Constructed by Andersons, Ltd, Christchurch, the boiler as a complete unit weighs about 60 tons, but for cartage has been stripped down to the main unit weighing 28 tons. It is bound for the boilerhouse of the Gisborne Refrigerating Company, Ltd.
