The Economy

Sir.—" They’re A Weird Mob.” Last February the president of the Federation of Labour prophesied extensive unemployment in June. In October he said the time was ripe for a 7} per cent wage claim as production had increased and the country was in a flourishing state. The member for Lyttelton now asks. “What steps are being taken to cope with unemployment in February next?" and this with overfull employment now and many workers and M.P.'s holding down two or more jobs, many wives working, and still production lagging. Who knows what? My guess is that if all who take money for services were to give the services for which they are paid, there would be no need for fears for the future of this country.—Yours etc.. B. CONSTANT. November 12. 1961.
