Kanhai In Big Partnership (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copy rig nt) ADELAIDE. November 7. A brilliant third-wicket partnership Y>f 223 in 138 minutes between the West Indian, R. Kanhai, and the Western Australian caqtaln B. Shepherd, enabled Western Australia to snatch an outright victory by one wicket in a Sheffield shield game at Adelaide today. A sporting declaration by the South Australian captain, L. Favell setting Western Australia 363 runs to make in 330 minutes, made the exciting finish possible. A brilliant, flawless 135 in 135 minutes (17 fours) b,y Kanhai. and a powerful 92 in 138 minutes (10 fours) by Shepherd, put Western Australia on the road to victory. A later collapse, however, left Western Australia gstill 38 runs to make when the last batsman H Bevan/ joined the former test player. K. Slater, at the wicket. Slater skilfully manipulated the strike to steer Western Australia to an exciting win with 20 minutes to spare.
