MINISTER IN ANTARCTIC
Mr Tennent On Visit fN.Z. Press Association) SCOTT BASE (Ross Island), Nov. 5 The Minister in charge o the Department of Scienitifli and Industrial Research (M Tennent) arrived in the An tarctic today as the guest o* Rear-Admiral D. M. Tyree the United States Antarctit commander. With him were Brigadie A. H. Andrews, commander o the Southern Military Dis trict, Mr A. McCready, mem ber of Parliament for Otaki and Major J. F. Spring, aid to Brigadier Andrews. They were met on arrive at the air strip on the ic by Admiral Tyree. Comman der Greenwell, of the Unite States forces, and Mr A. F Roberts. t!he leader at Sco‘ Base, and his deputy, Mi- F C. Jefferys. The Antarctic weather ws at its best—a cloudless skj no wind, and the sun Shinin brightly—thus adding to th warmth of their reception. While in the Antarctic, thf visitors will see severs scientific stations, and prob ably the penguin colonies and some of the inland stations.
Mr Tennent has accepted an invitation from Mr Roberts to spend a few days at Scott Base. Also visiting the Antarctic is the Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, Dr. E. Williams, Mr A. J. Downer, a member of the Air Council. and Mr D. Doyle, of the D.S.I.R. They will stay at Scott Base, and will probably visit Shackleton’s and Scott’s historic huts at Cape Royds and Cape Evans.
