SMITHFIELD MARKET
Weaker At Close
There was good trading at Smithfield early in the week but the market slackened later, according to cabled advice received at the weekend by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board. There were plentiful supplies of Home-killed lamb. Moderate pitchings of New Zealand lamb fetched unchanged to slightly lower prices. There was a fair inquity for light supplies of heavy New Zealand mutton. There was a small demand for lightweight mutton grades because of competition from Homekilled lamb. New Zealand wethers fetched lOd to 13Jd (down Jd) per lb and ewes 9i to 12d (down jd). Prices for' New Zealand meat ex hooks Smithfield, in the week ended October 20 with the variance since the previous week, are quoted as follows: Canterbury Lamb d. Yarn., „ per lb. d per lb.
