REUNION OF CLASS

Tribute Paid To Teacher

Thirty-two members of standard six at Sydenham School in 1921 met to honour their former teacher, Mr J. Noble, on Saturday evening. There were 54 pupils in the class and all but two had been traced, said Mr A. Anderson, the organiser of the reunion. Some had died, and some were overseas and unable to attend. However, Mr W. Kilroy, the manag-ing-director of a large Australasian food manufacturing company, came from Sydney specially for the reunion. The toast to Mr Noble was proposed by Mr Anderson, and in his reply Mr Noble recalled incidents in his teaching career.

A toast to absent friends was proposed by Mr Kilroy, and the present headmaster of the school, Mr A. A. Pullar, played tape-recorded messages from present pupils. Mr T. P. R. Hole, who recently retired from the position of controller of the 8.8.C.’s news service, and Professor J. P. Belshaw, who holds the chair of economics at the University of New England, New South Wales, sent letters which were read at the dinner.
