On Advisory Services
Sir,—The article on the Farm Advisory Service of the Department of Agriculture in “The Press” of October 14 is timely and very much to the point.
“I am sure I express the opinion of all Farm Improvement Club members when I say we are fully aware and grateful for the work which has been, and is being done by the advisory service of the Department of Agriculture, and looking back over 30 years of progress in the Ashburton county I am per-
sonally in no doubt as to the immense part these same research and advisory officers have contributed.
“One does not expect the officers of the department to give, or be able to give the same personal service as rendered by a Farm Improvement Club officer to club members, and the existence of this private service is no reflection on the work or ability of the personnel of the department. “The members of a Farm Improvement Club are merely, as stated in the report in 'The Press,' following the modern trend of consultants and advisors in industry.”—Yours. etc., R. DUNKLEY. Chairman of the Lauriston Farm Improvement Club.
