(NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 28 The American negro boxer. “Joltin’ Johnny" Smith, wen in two rounds against the Australian. Peter Read, in a professional middle-weight bout in Auckland this evening. It was a murderous righthand punch by Smith which knocked Read down toward" the end of the second round. Read had been down three times previously. The referee decided that Read was unfit to continue, and awarded the bout to Smith. In -this, his second bout in Auckland, Smith showed up as the most powerful puncher since Kitione Lave, and for accurate placement of punches not even Lave could compare with him.
