Rifle Shooting EMPIRE CITIES
Christchurch Record (London Correspondent of "The Press”) LONDON, October 23. For the fifth successive year, Christchurch has won the Empire Cities’ smallbore postal match, with a new record score of 2963 points. The team was 11 bulls clear of London in second place.
Teams of 30 contested the event, each competitor having 10 shots at 25 yards. The successful Christchurch team was I. Ballinger (captain), H. Barker, M. Quartly, R. Weston, N. Crump, C. Thom, G. Hornung, V. Curtis, E. Grafton, Mrs B. Irvin, I. Horwell, E. Bryden, R. E. Taylor, D. Froude, E. Williams N. Hodson, G. Haines, E. Bunting, R. Mitchell, A. Buchanan, P. Le Cren, W. Sterritt. V. Hicks, C. Scott, L. Key, M. Taylor, S. Reid, A. Westaway, W. Drayton and B. Waters. Other cities finished in this order:— Melbourne (2950), Sydney (2941), Wellington (2937), Adelaide (2936), Dunedin (2927). Edinburgh (2920), Pretoria (2896), Cape Town <2826), and Port Elizabeth (2822). Canterbury, winner of the B.S.A. Cup for the county, province and state championship for the last two years, had this time to bow out in favour of Warwickshire, which gained 3939 points and 20 silver medals in addition to the cup. Wellington was only two points behind in second place. Canterbury was fourth, Otago 15th, Hawke’s Bay (equal) 25th, and Auckland 29th. The Canterbury team in this contest was:— I. Ballinger, C.
