CAR RACING AT TIMARU
Open Scratch Event lion By W. Harris (NZ. Press Association) TIMARU, Oct. 23. W. Harris (Tai Tapu), driving an Alfa-Jaguar, today won the South Canterbury Car Club’s open scratch race at the club’s meeting at Saltwater creek. D. N. Stewart (Christchurch), Riley Special, was second, and E- Tims (Timaru), was third. There were six starters in the event, which only the three placggetters finished. In winning the event, Harris lapped Tims and returned a time which was 2min 57sec ahead of Tims’s. Harris also won the racing cars and specials race, in which W. Darrell (Christchurch), A.CJE. Special, was second, and D. N. Stewart (Christchurch), Riley Special, third. In the saloon car event, results were:— S Candy (Timaru), Jaguar, 1; D. S. Algie (Gore), Ford VB, 2: S. Prestidge (Christchurch), Ford VB, 3.
