Miss L. Moore Selected New Zeeland'* “ewimmer ot the year" for IS6C-61 is Mil* L Moore. holder of all three national women's freestyle titles, the 100 yards, MO yards and ito yards. She Will be presented with the Baxter O'Neill trophv at the natibhal championship* in her home city of Wellington next February. The announcement ' of the award was made on behalf of the selectors to the national president (Mr A. J. Donaldson) at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association on Saturday. It was not necessarily the outstanding competitor who gained the award, said Mr Donaldson. Genera! character, service to the sport and the possibility of remaining in swimming were all taken into account. Miss Moore gained her triple title success at the national championships at Taurange earlner this year. Later she won five Wellington titles and set four new centre records. Much of her training has been under the noted Hamilton coach. R. B. Frankham. The new "swimmer of the year" is a sixth form pupil at Queen Margaret’s College. Wellington. Her predecessors in the holding of tlte award have been Mis* T. Staveley and D. F. Gerrard, both of Auckland.
