RANDOM REMINDER
PUSS IN THE CORNER
Small girls very often look like little angels, and occasionally they live up to their appearance. Generally speaking, small girls are a delight, and one must concur with the sentimeats expressed on the subject by Maurice Chevalier. But beneath that cherubic exterior there very often lurks a very active imp of mischief. Take the case of Janet. aged seven. She is one of the fair-haired browneyed charmers nearly always equipped with a large and winning smile which seems to enrich all the world about her. Like most women of her age, she loves parties. Recently she had an invitation to attend the
birthday celebration of a friend, and she went off to it looking a picture. She had a new frock, and was wearing it with the confidence and distinction of a professional model. Freth ribbons were in her hair, and she had her customary seraphic smile. Four hours later she returned. The smile was still in place but otherwise she was unreconisable. She had had a wonderful time, she claimed; But her frock was in tatters, her socks about her ankles, her shoes covered in mud, her ribbons tight, bright little knots. Slowly the story unfolded. There had been boys at the party, and, with a complete disre-
gard for the usual party proprieties, they had organised a game of bar-the-door. They had loftily agreed to let the girls take part Janet had warmed to the project, for she has brothers who play Rugby with tremendous enthusiasm, and • complete disregard for the mental and physical comfort of those opposed to them. Janet had watched them. Janet had watched them play, and had, quite clearly, learned something of their vigorous methods, In her simple but adequate and direct Language. ahe expressed her regrets about the frock, but invited her mother to see how the others looked.
