HILLSBOROUGH HOMESTEAD

Information On History

Some information on “Eambank,” the original hoepestead of Mr and Mrs George Duncan at Hillsborough, has been gathered by the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association, but the City Council would welcome any other historical information. In 1947 the house and 59 acres of land were bequeathed to the council for a recreation area by Miss Mary Duncan. The house which is about 100 years old, is built malady of pit-sawn kauri. The association has several photographs of one of the two volunteers’ camps held at Hillsborough in 1865. At the second of these a mock battle was held.
