Y.W.C.A. Appeal
This has been a notable year for the Christchurch Young Women’s Christian Association, which today will hold a street appeal for funds to continue its useful activities. In April the association celebrated the completion of 70 years’ service to the community; and it now looks forward to an expansion of its work. Organisations such as the Y.W.C.A. have become increasingly important because of the complexity of social problems. Depending for their success mainly
upon voluntary effort and local interest, they afford the public an opportunity of supplementing the welfare services of the State. Most people are well aware of the ways in which the Y.W.C.A. fosters the development of leadership and character among girls and young women. The association is especially anxious to provide additional hostel accommodation —a project to which the public can contribute generously in the knowledge that their gifts will be well applied.
