N.Z. WOMAN HONOURED
Society Fellowship Awarded Mrs Irene A Cooper, of Hamilton, has been made a fellow of the Photographic Society of America, the world's largest photographic organisation. An associate of the society, Mrs Cooper has been its honorary representative to New Zealand since 1955. and received its service medal in 1956. For the last eight years, she has been an active member of the society’s international portfolio circle which circulates monochrome prints among members in the United States and New Zealand.
Mrs Cooper is an honorary foundation member of the Photographic Society of 1 New Zealand and its immediate past president. In 1954 she established "New Zealand Camera,” the official journal of the society, and has been it® editor since then. She is a member of the national panel of judges for both monochrome and colour photography, and has served as a judge, lecturer, and commentator for photographic exhibitions. A past president of the Waikato Photographic Society, Mrs Cooper is also a member of the Photographic Society of South Africa, an honorary member of the MorrinsviUe Camera Club and the South Canterbury Photographic Society and was awarded the Australasian Photographic Society’s recognition medal in 1956.
Both her husband, who is an associate of the Photographic Society of Africa, and her daughter, Miss Kay L. Cooper, have been active in the affairs of the American and New Zealand societies.
