KINDERGARTEN BROADCASTS
Miss I. M. Jamieson Resigns Miss I. M. Jamieson, who has been the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union’s representative since 1950 on a broadcasting committee which conducts “Kinder, garten On The Air,” has resigned. Her resignation was accepted with regret at the union’s conference yesterday. Because of Miss Jamieson’s foresight and wisdom, New Zealand’s “Kindergarten On The Air” was regarded as the finest in the world, said Mrs A. F. Johnson, president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. Miss Jamieson has given outstanding service to the kindergarten movement. In 1911 she was co-opted to a sub-committee, set up by the first committee of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, to plan a scheme for training students. Extension When the union set up a sub-committee to investigate the possibilities of extending kindergarten experience to children and parents in country areas. Miss Jamieson was appointed to it. In 1949, this sub-commit-tee approached the New Zealand Broadcasting Service with proposals for broadcasting kindergarten sessions. Miss Jamieson said yesterday that the union had always received great cooperation from the broadcasting service. Parents had been most appreciative of “Kindergarten On The Air.”
Miss Jamieson is now president of the Hamilton Free Kindergarten Association and was an observer at the present conference.
