NEW Tariff Will Need Careful Studying

The new customs tariff to operate from July 1 next year will require careful study by all importers. A first glance at the new tariff shows that it has been divided into much smaller groups.

Dried fruits, for example, are now under separate headings: currants, dates, figs, prunes and so on. Countries such as Australia will no longer have the 3 per cent, primage charged on their goods.

Canned fish retains the same duty, but the different varieties are under separate tariff item numbers. Importers are wondering how the reclassification of tariff items will affect the import schedule to be introduced next July.

Dried Fruit*.—The Australian Dried Vine Fruit Board has changed the final date of shipment to New Zealand of the 1961 season’s fruit. Further orders can be placed for shipment before the end of next January. Most grade* are still

available and the board would like orders to be placed promptly

Marmalade.—The popular Old Mill brand marmalade, wellknown in Auckland, has now been introduced to the South Island market. In the popular cut style, the marmalade sells at 3s 3d tor a IBoz jar. This nrice is in line with other New Zealand brands.

Cereal Prices. Kelloggs, makers ot a variety of breakfast foods, have increased the price ot Rice Bubbles and All Bran. Rice Bubbles now sell at 2s 3d and 3s Sd. while All Bran has risen Id to 2s 7d.

Garden Spray—Cooper. McDougall and Robertson have added a 6oz aerosol to their range Thia is a new fine spray to treat both indoor and outdoor plants against troublesome pests It sells at Ss 9d. Packet Tea.—Packers of Raven Tea advise a l ad a >ilb increase. The new price is 3s Slid. Garden Manare—The Auckland meat firm of Hellabys is producing a range ot garden fertilisers The range includes blood and bone, bonedust, superphoephates. and several other varieties The new fertiHeers are packed in two urti and priced to suit the home gardener's pocket.
