DEAD DOG NOT DOSED
(New Zealand Press Association)
WAIPUKURAU, Oct. 5. A stockman, John Hamilton Clark Sinclair, today told the Magistrate’s Court at Waipukurau that the dog he was charged with failing to have dosed was dead when he received the notice to take it to the dosing strip. After a hurried consultation with the prosecuting counsel, Mr W. A. Harlow. S.M., gave leave for the charge to be withdrawn. Prosecuting for the Patangata County Council, Mr H J. Davidson said Sinclair had received a notice to take his dogs to a dosing strip on
April 28. Sinclair had taken three dogs but a fourth had not been dosed. “I understand the dog has since been dosed.” said Mr Davidson.
Sinclair: No It hasn’t, it’s dead. I was told to plead guilty because I hadn’t notified the registrar it had died.
The Magistrate: Clearly the defendant can’t produce a dead dog. The prosecution will have to consider the matter further.
