DEEP-SEA FISHING
Second World Contest (NX Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 3. American, South African and Australian anglers will test their skill against representatives from New Zealand clubs in the second world deep-sea fishing contest to be held in North Island waters next March. A circular letter prepared by the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council was bringing a good response from those and several other countries, said the secretary (Mr A. W. Aston) in Auckland today. The contest, which will run for 10 days between March 12 and March 22, will be on similar lines to the first world contest held in New Zealand two years ago. Boats will operate out of five main centres—Bay of Islands, Whangarei, Tauranga, Whangaroa and Mercury Bay. Teams will change bases halfway through the tontest. Among the definite entries received so far were two South* Africans, 15 Americans and the two-man Australian team of E. W. Palmer and E. S. Davidson, winners of the 1960 contest, said Mr Aston.
Inquiries from local anglers had been numerous, and Hawaii and Mexico were expected to compete.
