QANTAS SERVICE

Electra At Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. Qantas Empire Airways began a scheduled service between Australia and New Zealand today with a return Electra flight from Sydney to Wellington. Twenty-seven travel agents and journalists, many of them Asians, were among the passengers on the Electra when it arrived at 6.30 p.m.

A Maori haka party presented the traditional challenge to Sir Hudson Fysh. chairman of directors of Qantas, before the visitors moved into the terminal building. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr F. J. Kitts) welcomed the Australian airline to Wellington and said the city looked to the day when it would connect with Brisbane and Melbourne as well as with Sydney. Sir Hudson Fysh made a presentation to the deputyPrime Minister (Mr Marshall), who congratulated Qantas on its record in international aviation. When the Electra left on the return flight to Sydney at 7.30 p.m. it carried New Zealand guests of Qantas.
