CHORAL CONCERT AT SCHOOL

Pupils Of Linwood High

A selection of folk songs, mostly English, was the principal feature of an enjoyable choral concert given on Saturday by the Linwood High School senior and junior choirs and instrumentalists. The choirs were conducted by Mr B. Barrett, a teacher at the school.

Songs given by the senior choir included “Viva L'Amour” and “Twankidilo.” The boys’ choir sang "Some Folk Like to Sing.” and “The Girl With the Golden Hair.” They ended with a humorous American folk song, “I Was Born 10.000 Years Ago.” The junior girls’ choir sang "The Female Highwayman,” and a Somerset folk song. Piano solos were given by Graeme Humphrey, and Sally Agnew and Sharon Taylor gave duet items. Rupert Glover, a violinist, played "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring." The programme was augmented bv the Christchurch Orpheus Choir, conducted by Mr Frank Shields. Items given by the choir Included five English nastorals. and numbers by Elgar. Brahms and Vaughan Williams. The concert ended with “The Lord is My Shepherd.” sung by the combined school and the Christchurch Orpheus Choir.
