Shortage Of Teachers
Sir,—ln a news item today th* Minister of Education Mr Tennent) is quoted as stating that facts and figures presented to the public by the secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute
(Mr Ashbridge) are "highly misleadingAs all public schools are reporting their stafltag problems: direct to the Dominion secretary every week, how does the Minister justify his claim? What more vital on-the-apot (even if unofficial) information could he possibly require than that now in the hands of Mr Ashbridge? For a Minister of the Crown to say that there is no deterioration in the staffing position during recent months is contrary to fact, and an injustice to all the i headmasters contributing to the up-to-the-minute survey. Surely the Minister would be better advised to confer with Mr Ashbridge rather than disparage him —Yours, etc., C. J, PATTERSON. September 27. 1961.
