UNSCRUPULOUS COMPANIES

Aust. Investors Losses

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, September 27. Australian investors had lost about £lom in the last three years through the promotions of unscrupulous companies in Australia, Mr T Fitzgerald, financial editor of the “Sydney Morning Herald,” said last night. He was giving the A. N. Smith memorial lecture at Melbourne University. Criticism by newspapers of these companies could be stopped by the companies taking out writs against them. This meant that newspapers were often under great duress when offering advice to investors against unsound investments.

The processes of Government and law were usually too slow to prevent investors suffering toss, he said.
