ADMINISTRATION IN SCHOOLS

Full-Time Officers Suggested (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 21. A full-time administration officer for each post-primary school with more than 1000 pupils was suggested by Mr A. J. Faulkner (Opposition, Roskill) in the House of Representatives. This would ease the load of routine administration work of school principals, said Mr Faulkner, addressing the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) at question time.

He said this work included the control of about 20,000 books, maintenance supervision erf school sewers, lavatories. classroom buildings, assembly halls, swimming pools, and sports grounds, plus the preparation of reports for commissions and the Education Department, and the conduction of interviews incidental to these matters.

Mr Faulkner envisaged that an administration officer could do all work of a “nonteaching kind involved in the running of these school communities. “Principals currently occupied on these routine tasks do so at the expense of teaching staff, pupils, and the general level of academic achievement.” said Mr Faulkner.
