Swimming CENTENNIAL POOL
Centre’s Head’s Comment
Although the Canterbury Swimming Centre congratulated the Mayor and councillors on the sunport they had given the baths committee in adopting the proposal to complete the Centennial Pool, it was disappointed that the entire pool would not be roofed, said the president of the 'Canterbury centre (Mr M. R. Duckmanton) yesterday. He was commenting on the City Council’s £147.760 plan to complete the pool. Mr Duckmanton said the centre would like to see the pool completely roofed, bearing in mind the climate and the vagaries of the Christchurch weather
“Are councillors happy that a civic amenity will be virtually closed for five months of the year?” he asked. “Christchurch. I feel, will still fall short of what will be provided in other centres throughout New Zealand.” Mr Duckmanton said the doubt as to the raising of the loan and the relatively small rise in rates could be dispelled easily as the people of Christchurch had never counted lives of children in £ s. d. He assured the council of* the centre’s support in seeing that the project was a credit to the city.
