CARETAKER CABINET
Elections In Greece (NZ.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) ATHENS, September 21. Greece’s non-political caretaker Cabinet, composed of financiers, retired armed forces officers, civil servants, and professors will assume its duties today. The Cabinet will help to run the country’s affairs until new General Elections take place on October 29 It will play a special role in organising and supervising the poll. King Paul yesterday appointed Lieutenant-General Constantine Dovas, the 64-year-old retired Chief of the General Staff, as head of the caretaker Government. These moves came after the resignation of the former Cabinet, led by Mr Constantine Karamanlis, who recommended a caretaker Government and October elections when he handed in the resignations yesterday His tour-year term as Prime Minister was not due to end until May next year. But according to political observers Mr Karamanlis wanted to advance the Genera] Elections to provide Greece with a stable Government. backed by an election victory, to face the worrying international situation.
